La Polveriera

Reggio Emilia (RE) Italy

La Polveriera is a multipurpose centre housed in two former military hangars now owned by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia.

The renovation project was overseen by architects Lorenzo Baldini and Antonio Pisano of the Marcel Mauer firm and restored two historic buildings dating to the 1930s to the community.

One building was converted into a residence for the disabled and social cooperative offices while the other was transformed into a multipurpose 1000 m2 open space consisting of restaurants, offices, co-working spaces and workshops.

The style of the buildings is minimalist and industrial, referencing their original nature and purpose.

The Marazzi collections were chosen to decorate utility areas like the bathrooms and kitchens. One of the bathrooms was decorated with 7x28 cm Bricco brick wall effect porcelain stoneware in the colours Bianco and Carbone while the other was furnished with 25x76 cm Chalk ceramic tiles in the Smoke, Avio and Sand colours and the two 3D structures Fiber and Brick.

Meanwhile, for the kitchen the large size slimline Essenziale ceramics collection was chosen to give the space a minimalist look.
