ResidentialThe project by JAO Arquitectura in Granada transforms a covered terrace into an ‘inner garden’ through the innovative use of Marazzi ceramic surfaces.
Situated in the heart of Granada, Fabula de la Casa is a residential project by JAO Arquitectura, conceived from the aspiration to create a domestic environment that engages in dialogue with light, nature, and the urban landscape. At the core of the intervention lies The Garden, a covered terrace designed as a visual buffer between the house and the city: a suspended, vibrant space where natural light reflects off the surfaces and accompanies the rhythm of the plants that dwell within. The architects describe it as ‘the soul of the project: a covered terrace that establishes a visual buffer with the city.’ We required a glazed surface capable of reflecting light and atmosphere, permitting the light and natural plants to achieve the rest.
From this need arose the choice of porcelain stoneware bricks Crogiolo Lume Green, the Marazzi collection in a small format, characterised by a glossy and irregular finish that enhances brightness and creates ever-changing plays of light. Used extensively to clad the floors and walls of The Garden, Lume Green transforms the space into a contemporary botanical chamber, intense and enveloping, where ceramic matter and nature engage in an uninterrupted dialogue.
In contrast to the brilliance of The Garden, the arched passage leading to the private quarters of the house takes on a more intimate and secluded character, courtesy of the porcelain stoneware floor Cementum Indigo. This true architectural ‘tunnel’, shaped by dark walls and gentle curves, achieves a refined equilibrium through the tactile, solid surface of the Cementum collection: the concrete-effect slabs guide the perspective, enhance the continuity of the pathway, and converse with the geometry of the arch, transforming the corridor into a material and theatrical space.
With Fabula de la Casa, JAO Arquitectura employs ceramic as an instrument of atmosphere and identity, realising a project wherein light becomes matter and architecture harmonises with the natural essence of the spaces.
