Cape Town International Airport

Cape Town South Africa

Officially opened one month before the World Cup, the large glass parallelepiped connects the two pre-existing wings for domestic and international travel and it is the heart of the Airport thanks to the efficient centralized system of passengers’ and luggage management in the hall of the first floor. Crowned by a wide, curved roof cut out by a slender double wing cover, the building is certainly a landmark, but one that suggests rather than impose itself. A characteristic that anticipates on its smart, light interiors, focused on comfort and visually harmonized by 40,000 square meters of porcelain stoneware flooring of the GM series by Marazzi, purposefully requested by the building company to provide the interiors with extra value with a Made in Italy touch. The lightly structure of porcelain stoneware conjures up the texture of stones and it satisfies the high requisites of resistance to abrasion and anti-slip: clearly a necessary feature for a place that will welcome approximately 15 million passengers per year by 2015.
