Centro Commerciale Carosello

Carugate (MI) Italy

The expansion of this major shopping centre, not far from a strategic junction on Milan’s ring road, is a benchmark development project designed with environmental issues in mind and its relationship with the local area. The main elements of the design are the green roof and the sophisticated solutions using natural light. The layout of the retail units, overlooking an unusually high and elegant gallery housing 40 shops selling leading international brands, also points to the building’s high innovation content. The architects, two famous studios based in London and Milan, chose a subtle and elegant carpet of natural stone for the flooring of the shopping centre’s main walkway, enhancing the identity of the new centre and making the natural daylight from the skylights seem even softer and more pleasant. Marazzi Engineering was involved in the project for the paving of the new gallery, the service corridors, the public conveniences and the existing shopping centre, supporting the customer and the architects for the final selection of products from a wide range of granites and marbles, supplying the materials and preparing the final plans, requiring a considerable effort given the complexity of the various areas of the building and the required design. The slim slabs in four different widths were fitted in a straight forward pattern with a closed joint. Particular care was needed for the large circles reproducing the shopping centre’s logo, needing precision water jet cutting. All the stones were supplied pre-polished to ensure maximum uniformity in the colour and were polished again on site.
