The interdisciplinary nature of architecture

Reading time minutes

The conference entitled “Architettura disciplina eteronoma” at the CSAC in Parma is an opportunity to think about architecture’s interactions with other, more and more complex disciplines and its ability to reflect values and social relations

Architecture represents the future, present and past of a community. It may be one discipline but it intrinsically embraces many others, including and representing them in its built spaces. This is the underlying concept of the conference “Architettura disciplina eteronoma” (Architecture, a Heteronomous Discipline) to be held from 14:15 hrs on Friday 24 May at CSAC, the Study Centre and Communication Archive of the University of Parma.

The event aims to think about what architectural design means today and how innovations in technologies and tools are changing familiar practices. Above all, however, it aims to consider the implications of architectural design for the community and for tangible and intangible public and ethical values. There will be a large number of round-table discussions focusing on architecture’s theoretical and empirical interactions with criticism, mathematics, natural sciences, archaeology, philosophy and ethics, neurosciences, photography and new technologies such as artificial intelligence.

The event, conceived and organised by Emilio Faroldi and Maria Pilar Vettori, is supported by Milan Politecnico University, University of Parma, CSAC – Study Centre and Communication Archive, City of Parma, Parma Conservatoire, Province of Parma Institute of Architects, Planners, Landscape Designers and Curators and MANTOVARCHITETTURA and sponsored by USM Modular Furniture, ERCO and Marazzi.
