Living & Kitchen: The Greenhouse

A true archetype of modern architecture, Philip Johnson’s Glass House in Connecticut, USA – itself inspired by the famous Farnsworth House in Illinois designed by Mies van der Rohe – has inspired generations of designers.

This notion of a transparent home immersed in nature returns in the design preview, in which a domestic space overlooks a tropical forest; the large windows are the only limit to the lush vegetation with its abundant different species.

There is no clear boundary between inside and outside; the concept has been explicitly expressed partly thanks to the inclusion of a plant courtyard that is open the domestic spaces. Another element that characterises the house in the forest is the monolith placed in the middle of the central room; a space that has several functions. It connects the various rooms, provides storage – playing the role of a functional column in the kitchen in which appliances and storage compartments are fitted – and is an important decorative element.

The wall finish in the first setting features the glossy and slightly satiny small sizes in the Crogiolo Rice collection, in the Grigio and Natural Lux colours.
The back wall of the living area contains the Mystone Travertino Navona series, which overlooks the large floor made with Oltre slabs, a collection inspired by wood, used here in the warm Sand shade.
The kitchen block and worktop leave no room for doubt, displaying an unmistakable return to classicism thanks to the 12 mm-thick pure white Grande Marble Look Statuario Satin.

The second setting chromatically harmonises with the trees surrounding the house.
Grande Marble Look Verde Aver Lux laid on the back wall is matched by the wall in the foreground, for which Grande Resin Look, in the Verde Scuro colour and Silky finish was chosen. This preview also confirms the flooring inspired by the wooden oak planks in the Oltre collection and, for the covering of the kitchen block and the worktop, draws inspiration from the Grande Stone Look collection, Ceppo di Gré, in the Grey colour, also 12 mm thick.
