Interpreting Ligurian slate

Reading time minutes

Mystone Pietra Ligure reinvents the aesthetics of the famous local slate characterised by its fine, luminous grain and micro-fractures on parallel planes. For indoor and outdoor solutions that reflect the traditional uses of the natural material.

Italy’s Liguria region is well known for its world-famous, globally recognisable varieties of stone, used for centuries in architecture and in the interior design of both civic and private buildings. Shaley rocks sedimented in parallel layers that form distinctive tiny fractures and depressions; fine-grained slate with deep, full colours in shades of grey and leaden hues that still never lose their luminosity.

In the Mystone Pietra Ligure collection, Marazzi reinvents the slate look, transforming it into a contemporary, durable material that is still also timeless, since its inspiration is from the Italian tradition.

The collection’s large-size porcelain stoneware tiles are suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, reflecting the way Ligurian stones were traditionally used both inside and outside buildings. For outdoor installation, the 20 mm version is also available to enable symbiosis between architecture and nature.

The sizes (20×120 cm, 75×150 cm, 60×120 cm, 75×75 cm and 60×60 cm) enable creative use of multiples and submultiples, not to mention alternation of the warm shades (Beige and Cenere) and cool colours (Bianco and Antracite) in installation effects of the kind used in the material’s local tradition. The Mystone Pietra Ligure colours are inspired by the shades of the minerals in the surfaces of the natural stone, and thanks to the 3D Ink Premium Technology, which ensures perfect matching of the patterning and structure, the surfaces are extremely realistic and tactile.
