Salerno ferry terminal

Zaha Hadid and Salerno's "oyster" ferry terminal - 1
Stazione marittima di Salerno

Salerno ferry terminal, one of the last great works by architect. Zaha Hadid, was conceived as “an oyster with a hard outer shell containing soft, fluid elements, with a ‘tempered’ roof to shield it from the harsh Mediterranean sun”. The terminal's curved roof is completely clad with a mix of custom slabs in Marazzi crystallized stoneware, in a variety of colours and a custom size, for an extremely tactile effect, shimmering in the hot sunlight.
