Form and function, action and decoration are the principal guidelines inspiring the project by Bernard Tschumi for the Florida International University’s School of Architecture. The ceramic tiles were used for surfacing the facades of three different buildings, referred to by Tschumi as “social condensers”, structures that surround “empty” spaces, i.e. venues devoted to student interaction and activities. Geometric volumes that recall mineral forms, like cubic pyrites, completely covered with 20x20 cm. tiles in porcelain stoneware from the Marazzi Città line, rise skyward, creating an interweaving of colors that range from intense red to bright yellow.
