“Il Cielo”, the building recently constructed for the iGuzzini Spanish branch stands close to Barcelona’s main road transport nodes, in an area with high landslip risk. Without modifying the topography, the architects first designed a large basement area to house the storeroom, car park, showroom, auditorium and various services. The roof of this area becomes a high-tech outdoor paving, functioning as a kind of outdoor showroom. The spherical corporate building, slightly irregular in shape on its southern side, emerges from this basement container. A large opening in the centre, containing the single pillar on which the whole building is suspended, allows closer control of the building’s lighting and energy consumption. The areas in this part of the interior will be used as office space, with the upper floors allocated to research. Marazzi provided the ceramic coverings for the raised floors on all levels of the building, for the exterior and for the floors and walls of the washrooms. In addition, the main staircase was finished with a custom-made product, obtained by cutting Evolutonstone and SistemT Graniti stoneware tiles.
