Hotel and catering, hospitality and leisureThe renovation of the historic Europa Palace Hotel in Sanremo, carried out by the Q-BIC studio, honours its heritage. Since the nineteenth century, it has been one of the most significant hotel establishments on the Ligurian Riviera and a benchmark for clientele seeking contemporary, comfortable elegance.
Seventy-one rooms, a new rooftop terrace, a new spa in the basement, and the hotel restaurant open to the city. These are the defining features of the renewed identity of the historic Europa Palace Hotel. An establishment that never closes, ensuring an oasis of comfort even during the busy summer season for the many guests who experience high-level hospitality here.
“The hotel’s location is unique, close to the Casino and some of the most beautiful beaches in the area,” explains Matteo Pasquini, chief architect and project manager at Q-BIC studio, founded in 2005 by brothers Luca Baldini, architect, and Marco Baldini, designer. “The architectural element was renovated according to the design by the Calvi Ceschia Viganò studio, based in Sanremo. For the furniture contract, we entrusted the company Hi Contract Brugnotto Group. A highly meticulous design process was undertaken, with bespoke drawings for many of the finishes, including ceramic surfaces.”
For the ground floor flooring, the Cementum porcelain stoneware collection was selected, in the colours Sand and Olive, but with a custom laying pattern; The slabs were cut according to the design and installed on site in three bespoke sizes.
“We have been using Marazzi products for a long time,” confirms Project Manager Pasquini, “the variety of textures and formats always enables us to meet the most diverse requests of our clientele and to work with design languages for buildings and environments with different functions.” There is no doubt regarding the performance and quality of the slabs, and the proprietary technologies guarantee unique characteristics of durability and safety.
For the staircase, to which the firm wished to impart a minimal and rigorous image, the Metal Look collection was selected in the Iron Dark variant, both for the flooring – including the corridors – and for the balustrade.
Complete compositional freedom in the rooms and wide choice of colours. On the walls at the head of the beds, reflected in the corner gaps, five colours from the Crogiolo Lume porcelain stoneware collection have been incorporated, featuring the characteristic gloss of handmade maiolica bricks: China, Forest, Pink, Turquoise and Musk.
In the same intense colours, characterised by subtle imperfections, the small size of Lume enlivens even the bathroom walls.
Secluded and immersed in a realm of absolute wellbeing, the spa area is situated in the basement. The client had already seen and appreciated the Travertino Classico collection, and brought it to our attention. We therefore decided to install the large slabs at full height, on the walls, as well as on the floors. The result is astonishing, as is the aesthetic quality of these surfaces which, in their stony compactness, evoke the Italian construction tradition and the spaces of ancient thermal baths.
