The people I have advised on the interior design of their homes have always needed to define their kitchen areas: some clients have insisted on a separate kitchen, however small, while others have liked the idea of a kitchen corner in a living area where the various functions could all be pleasantly combined, and for another group open plan has been the only option.

Open plan layouts must be left as open as possible while still defining specific entrance, living and cooking areas.A bookcase or plasterboard partition divides, creating a separate semi-room, but a peninsula creates and combines the various zones so that they are visually connected. Peninsulas can be used as both dining and working counters, and are very useful when space is limited. With layouts of this kind, the choice of covering materials for the kitchen area is particularly important. As far as possible, they should provide a match with the other materials used and be functional and elegant, like Marazzi ceramic tiles.
A touch of style may be added to a decorative panel which may serve as a partial partition using for example the majolicas of Block collection . Other excellent kitchen tile ideas include open bookcases without back panels, or lights hanging low over a table/peninsula to underline the space’s different functions.Another attractive solution is to use ceramic coverings that contrast with the finish in the living area, with neutral shades on the walls, or more sparkling, multicolour materials, well suited to young people’s apartments.

In homes with a separate kitchen, there is more opportunity for creating a room styled exactly to our taste, also considering the way we intend to use our kitchen, and we have a choice of the many styles in the Marazzi range - in the kitchen, hygienic, easy-clean, hard-wearing ceramic tiles are ideal. An interesting collection could be Marazzi Multiquartz, a faithful reinterpretation of natural stone with an unusual surface that, combined with specific colours to brighten the space, can design warm and cozy rooms perfectly in line with our personality.
