Surfaces with Purpose is Mohawk Industries’ new 2023 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report that reflects the corporation’s commitment to building a sustainable future by reducing environmental impact, continually improving employees’ conditions and promoting culture and inclusion within local communities.

The new Mohawk Industries ESG Report, drawn up in accordance with the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) standards, highlights the corporation’s determination to adopt sustainable technologies and encourage socially responsible practices, to improve quality of life and ensure a sustainable future for coming generations.

Mohawk’s commitment to creating “surfaces with purpose” is expressed in every aspect of its business: from the design of innovative surfaces to the promotion of environmentally sustainable practices, and from charitable programmes to energy saving. Everything is done with one common aim: to reduce environmental impact and improve the future.

Marazzi Group has made a significant contribution to the results set out in the Mohawk Industries ESG Report, which this year reaches its fifteenth edition.

Thanks to our prioritisation of training, the wellbeing of employees and continual dialogue with local communities, Marazzi Group has achieved Top Employers Italy certification for the eighth consecutive year, and Best Employers Italy certification for the second. In 2023, more than 2,300 people attended training courses for a total of 10,000 hours, more than half of these dedicated to the environment and safety, and the corporate wellbeing plan offers all employees and their families access to special benefits in terms of health, wellbeing, education and even financial and insurance services.

The social sustainability policy encourages genuine support for local communities. Maintaining its active cooperation with and support for local cultural Institutions and Organisations, in 2023 Marazzi Group contributed to the restoration of the Torre dell’Orologio, or Clock Tower, and the creation of the exhibit in the new wing of the Palazzo Ducale in Sassuolo. To help the people and territory of its Emilia-Romagna region hit by the floods in May 2023, Marazzi Group made a major donation to the fund established by the Regional Authority’s Agency for Territorial Safety and Civil Protection for environmental recovery and hydrogeological remediation projects.

The company is actively engaged on reducing environmental impact by improving performance and promoting energy efficiency, in accordance with the ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standards.

Thanks to efficient management, 100% of wastewater is reused in production processes. In 2023 the industrial wastewater recycling rate reached 120%, thanks to the reuse of water from other companies in the industry. 100% of green and fired production scrap is also recycled, with only 0.4% of waste sent to landfill, and all packaging is recyclable.

In 2023, 63 collections with a recycled material content varying from 30% to 40% were produced, thus reducing the quarrying and transportation of raw materials.

The company’s commitment to excellence has also been confirmed by major certifications and awards: FCMs (Food Contact Materials) certification, confirming that large slabs meet the safety and health standards set by the EU for contact with foods, and the MIAW (Muuuz International Awards) for technological and aesthetic innovation, presented to the Marazzi Crogiolo and Ragno Inedito and Richmond collections in the “Layout, materials and coverings” category.

Mohawk Industries and Marazzi Group view ESG challenges as opportunities for sustainable growth. The company is committed to taking real action, to generate a positive impact for people and the environment inside and outside the organisation, and the 2023 ESG Report provides tangible proof of this ongoing commitment.
