Yesterday, Marazzi has opened their newly reconstructed production plant in Fiorano Modenese.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by the Minister for Constitutional Reforms Maria Elena Boschi, the president of the Emilia Romagna Region Stefano Bonaccini who, along with other authorities, including the Mayor of Fiorano Francesco Tosi, the Mayor of Sassuolo Claudio Pistoni, the Mayor of Modena Gian Carlo Muzzarelli, the Mayor of Finale Emilia Fernando Ferioli and the Prefect of Modena Michele Di Bari, participated in a guided tour of the innovative technologies of the production site.
The new plant in Fiorano is the most significant investment made by Marazzi since the Group joined Mohawk Industries Inc., the world’s largest manufacturer of flooring materials listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
Marazzi is implementing an investment plan in Italy dedicated to technological innovation, and strengthening production capacity (doubling two sites in the district - Finale Emilia and Fiorano), with a strong focus on personnel training.
The new plant in Fiorano Modenese, which has been built at an existing facility, leads to more than doubling of the production capacity on the site from 4 to about 9 million square meters per year of high quality porcelain stoneware tiles. All this thanks to the start-up of new presses and new kilns plus the application of advanced technologies for digital decoration, tile coloring and rectifying, quality control, handling and packaging of ceramic products.
In designing the new facilities great attention has been paid to environmental impacts as well as to the comfort and safety of the Group’s employees by adopting electrical cogeneration, heat and water recovery systems as well as cutting-edge security systems on the production line.
The production site covers an area of 37,500 square meters, with over 9000 square meters of additional indoor space and more than 15,000 square meters are paved. More than 30,000 square meters of asphalt have been used for a new road system, that has incorporated into the site a street that previously belonged to the municipal administration. The construction of the plant involved more than 6,000 cubic meters of reinforced concrete, 275,000 kg of iron, 30 km of cables for power grids and 6 km of new pipelines.
"We are very satisfied with the completion of the new plant of Fiorano, which uses what is now the most advanced Italian technology for the production of fine ceramics respecting the environment and the safety of our employees - comments Mauro Vandini, CEO of Marazzi - I think that this project is an example of how the excellence of Italian industry, in sectors such as the ceramics one, in which we are recognized as the best in the world, may attract major international investment with a very positive outcome for the territory.».
