“Gio Ponti Loving Architecture”. The Exhibition at MAXXI in Rome reopens

Triennale, the Four Curve Tile, designed by Gio Ponti and Alberto Rosselli for Marazzi in 1960, is again on display at the MAXXI National Museum of Arts of the XXI century in Rome as part of the great retrospective that, forty years after Ponti’s death, collects archival materials, original models, photographs, books, magazines and design classics on the figure of Ponti architect.

The exhibition, curated by Maristella Casciato and Fulvio Irace with Margherita Guccione, Salvatore Licitra, Francesca Zanella and realized in collaboration with CSAC - Study Center and Communication Archive of the University of Parma and Gio Ponti Archives, aims to study and communicate the multi-faceted activity of Gio Ponti and his revolutionary research on architecture, “scenario and rescue of our life”.

In the section of the exhibition called "Architecture is a crystal", the curators have chosen to interpret Triennale as an art form, generating other forms, respecting the concept of Ponti's finite form. The two compositions, both made with Triennale in black stoneware, one in 30x46.5 format and one in 10x15.5 cm format, frame the original sketches designed by Gio Ponti.

Today Triennale is an iconic form that transcends surface and context, it can be applied to any Marazzi collection, with any palette or texture and continues to fascinate architects, designers and artists. Adrian Samson, the London photographer who recently took pictures of Triennale, commented: “I fell in love with the colours and designs of these iconic tiles. They seemed to me pieces of art. We didn't want to use any additional material, just working with their shape, their body, enhancing their sensuality”.
