MARAZZI: 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TRIENNALE, THE “FOUR CURVE” TILE DESIGNED BY GIO PONTI.

THE GROUP, WHICH ALSO CELEBRATES 75 YEARS IN BUSINESS THIS YEAR, RETAINS ITS POSITION AS A LEADER IN THE DESIGN WORLD.

It was in 1960, exactly 50 years ago, that Gio Ponti presented Marazzi with the design for a ceramic tile, the “four times curve” piece that has gone down in history as the Triennale, which immediately became an icon of modern ceramics and a benchmark in the world of design.

For half a century, the Triennale has symbolised the strong bond between Marazzi products and the architecture and design world. Modernity and tradition, design and technological innovation are the keystones of the corporate philosophy at Marazzi, which also celebrates 75 years in business this year.

From its origins with the legendary creation of the “cardboard factory” standing between 2 rows of poplar trees to the Marazzi of today – a world-leading group with turnover of 800 million euro, a work-force of 6,000 and 14,500 points of sale – a flair for innovation and prioritisation of design have been at the core of the company's culture.

Today, the history of Marazzi is one of Italian excellence achieving world-wide success, a history of continuous innovation to deliver products of outstanding beauty and technical quality. The company was already market leader when in 1974, thanks to a stroke of genius springing from continuous research into the product and production processes, Pietro Marazzi invented the single-firing process, the method for the rapid firing of tile body and glaze that opened out new frontiers for ceramic tiles, beyond use for just bathroom and kitchen floors, and became the standard method of ceramics production all over the world.

75 years of history, during which Marazzi has been a key player, a world-wide spokesman and outstanding example of Italian capability, and which is still a tale of commitment, awareness, constant and sometimes even visionary innovation, and at the same time tradition and a love of ceramics, a material as old as human craftsmanship, which today Marazzi makes a high-tech, stylish component of buildings, large public spaces such as airports, schools, universities, squares and gardens in more than 130 countries world-wide.

And today more than ever, the Marazzi universe is engaged in groundbreaking work in the area of design, a factor reflected by the Group’s recent award successes.

The latest in order of time are the innovative “SistemA” crystallised porcelain by Marazzi Tecnica and the Hatria “G Full” integrated sanitary fitting system, Marazzi Group products selected as amongst the best Italian-made Design items by the ADI Osservatorio Permanente del Design (ADI's Design Council), which will take part in 2011 in the XXII edition of the Compasso d’Oro, the top product design award, established in 1954 on the suggestion of Gio Ponti himself.

Design, innovation, quality: values that Marazzi incorporates not only in its high-end products but also in all the countless design combinations offered to the Italian and international market, the outcome of the investments made by the Marazzi Group in 2010 and the ceaseless work of its research laboratories, busy exploring new stylistic trends and state-of-the-art technologies, day in, day out.
