Grand Carpet
reading time: 2 minutes

Project by Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel
The site-specific installation Augmented Surface, a celebration of the amazing creative and decorative potentials of porcelain stoneware, designed by Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel for Marazzi to mark Milano Design Week 2017, has given birth to the Grand Carpet collection.
The starting point is an antique Persian carpet, in which obvious random wear over the years has transformed a compositional identity into different patterns: small pixels, with varying colour density, printed on porcelain stoneware slabs of 120x240 cm, create a single large pattern which can be repeated to infinity but is endlessly diverse.
The Grand Carpet project, produced in 6 different modules of 120x240 cm in 6 mm thickness, and in two extremely sophisticated colour shades, Smoke and Sand, represents an original approach to large slabs and to porcelain stoneware itself, “easy to handle and creative in its surface finishes, a characteristic not found in any other engineered material,” in the words of the architects Citterio and Viel.
Grand Carpet is intended for covering horizontal and vertical surfaces, indoors and outdoors, in both residential and contract locations.
