Ceramic surfaces: scenarios for hotel bathrooms

The hotel bathroom is one of the rooms that has evolved the most in recent years, eliminating the traditional division with the bedroom. The bathtub appears in the centre of the room and the washbasins serve as partitions in adjoining spaces with no clear separation elements. The shower moves away from the cabin design to become one with the room’s walls and floor. In this place with its hybrid functions, the covering materials become an essential way to define the space’s character and to facilitate maintenance. The ceramic material’s varied decorations and sizes, ranging from large slabs to mosaic, offers walls great versatility. Wood and cement effects, along with the textures of natural stone, accurately rendered in porcelain stoneware, lend the room a sophisticated touch and evoke, in the surfaces most exposed to water and wear – those in the bathroom –, the finishes most commonly found in contemporary hotel rooms.
