A brasserie by the North Sea

Crogiolo Lume and Zellige are the indoor coverings of the new Wilhelms Deli & Wein bistro
The sea front of Sylt, an island in the North Sea just off the German coast, is now the location of a contemporary designer bistro with wine bar: Wilhelms Deli & Wein was created during the expansion and conversion of the former Gut Wilhelmsberg traditional cellar, now a modern organic wine producer. The total renovation and restyling project was handled by the team of Studio Labs, Hamburg.
The architects handled the renovation of the cellar, the new logo, the new corporate and product image, and the interior design of the new bistro. This was conceived as a contemporary reworking of the traditional brasserie, achieved through the careful use of materials, colours and shapes.
The external facade covers two sides, identified by the coal grey colour of the walls, windows and doors. The modular patterning of the windows is repeated inside the bistro, to separate the public and kitchen areas. Black metal features are a stylistic constant, defining the bistro’s style.
Wood, natural stone, steel and Venetian Terrazzo floors feature alongside the ceramic tiles with a handmade flavour of the Crogiolo Lume and Zellige collections.
The first of these, Lume, with it long, narrow porcelain stoneware brick tiles in the unusual 6x24 cm size installed vertical, covers the walls of the locale’s toilet in a very glossy, vibrant Green colour.
The second, Zellige, inspired by traditional North African ceramics in 10x10 cm size, identifies the wine display walls and the bar counter in a delicate Salvia shade. The glossy surface, evoking hand-crafted tiles, gives luminosity to the interior, which tends to the industrial in style.
Its excellent wine list and quality menu make Wilhelms Deli & Wein a very trendy contemporary bistro.
