Marazzi strengthens its bond with Piazza Garibaldi through the renovation of the tasting area of the historic Drogheria Roteglia in Sassuolo, blending tradition and contemporary design in a symbolic place for the city.

deep connection between Marazzi and Piazza Garibaldi that has its origins at the end of the 1800s when Filippo Marazzi, the founder of the company, managed for 30 years, from 1897 to 1927, together with his brother Umberto, the grocery store and distillery that are still located in Piazza Garibaldi, before handing over the business to the Roteglia family, who have owned the shop for almost a century.

On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the company, Marazzi enhances its origins in Sassuolo and strengthens its bond with Piazza Garibaldi. Already in the 1980s, in fact, during the restoration works of the square, Marazzi donated the ceramic dial of the clock present in the civic tower and more recently, in 2023, contributed to the restoration and consolidation of the same tower, also known as “Campanone”, a symbol of Sassuolo and belonging to the city for many inhabitants, restoring value to the square, built at the end of the 1600s based on a project by the ducal architect Antonio Loraghi.

The collection Crogiolo Terramater, which pays homage to the rapid single-firing process patented by the company in 1974 and integrates the latest porcelain stoneware processing technologies, was chosen for the renovation of the tasting room of Drogheria Roteglia in Sassuolo. Made with Italian red clay and 60% recycled material, this collection represents a combination of history, tradition, Italianity, design, and innovation ideal for enhancing a place, that of the Drogheria, deeply linked to the history of Marazzi and that of the city of Sassuolo.

In the tasting room, the color Cotto of Terramater in square and rectangular format on the floor is combined on the wall with the rectangular format and the three-dimensional structure Losanga in the color Moss in a refined and timeless composition that recalls the distant firing processes of ceramics that produced irregular and browned effects on the surfaces and edges of the ceramics.

The two walls in Terramater moss-colored stoneware celebrate the history of the grocery store and the bond with Marazzi: photos, vintage postcards of Piazza Garibaldi and the grocery store managed by the Roteglia family, awards and recognitions for the Sassolino liqueur obtained by the Marazzi and previous managements of the business up to the historical labels of liqueurs and distillates produced by the Marazzi and Roteglia and the suggestive blue glazed ceramic letters that composed the writing Fratelli Marazzi on the arcades of the square and served as a sign.
Within the renovated space, these elements blend with the offer of the grocery store products in newly created shelves as well as the work tables in oak.
